The nitpicker in me has to point out, since nobody else did, that the Richter scale example was incorrect. A 2.0 earthquake (not a 1.1) is 10 times as strong as a 1.0. A 3.0 earthquake is 100 times stronger than a 1.0, a 4.0 1000 times stronger than a 1.0, etc rather than increasing in magnitude 10x...
