You can do it by adding your friends page to your account, and leave it visible, then set the home page to hidden so no-one can choose a link from it. But if you do this, you may find it hard to get trades as "friends" pages are pretty useless, low quality pages that may well even be damag...

There should be a list of sites of the other guy, with a "Add to request" button at the right hand side of each, just click that button to request a link from that site (or more than one). If there's no such list then the other guy may have limited PR and not realised that it has left you ...

There are a LOT of reasons to have hidden sites. Any new sites that I add here, I set to hidden until they are at least a couple months old - it must look odd to Google to come across a new site and find it already has a load of "friends" it is linking to.

I haven't lifted his ban, but I do believe that he did not know what the terms meant. Doesn't matter, his sites had that phrase all over them, not just in the domain names. I suspect there are some people here who will blindly accept a trade without even bothering to check what they are being asked to link to. You have to be careful what you link TO, as well as where you get links FROM!

Nope just clicked through to someone's site from the link in the trade request, I did the captcha thing which unblocked me and then cut and pasted the link and it was ok.

I think, and note I only say "I think", that you are more likely to be penalised for having too many backlinks with the same anchor text in a short space of time, than you are to have too many backlinks per se.

I sometimes see Google as the referrer in stats but with no query string so there's no search string to parse. At first I thought these were bots faking the referstring but maybe there's some privacy setting in the browser that strips the query string off the referstring?
