Want new features and a faster, more efficient linkspun?

Looking to push links to a site and want specific niches, site types, numbers, tld's etc, this is a good place to ask or look.

Want new features and a faster, more efficient linkspun?

Post by jdoughs »

We are going to be giving a slight overhaul to a couple features that have been mild annoyances, or at least not flowing properly. I'm also going to be adding several new things to help in the general flow, and increase our activity here.

As of now I've got the following incoming and would like a little discussion about them, and any tweaks/changes you see and would like to add, please respond and be as clear and concise as possible and we'll see what we can get rocking. I'm hoping that most these features below will be live within about a week from now :)
  • Trade Set Up Page Layout/Efficiency Rework. - Set Up Trade Pages will now sort into links you need to add (up top) and links the other party needs to add below. The link on the main nav bar will also mimic the other links, and show a numerical value (8,4) First number being links you may need to add, and 2nd one the other party.
  • Rework The Way "Existing Trades" Are Displayed. - Better display the existing trades on all pages. Right now the default is a green background (and not working on all pages). This should be a continual function on every page, and be a drop down ajax/jquery or similar, displaying all relevant trades involved.
  • QuickUrls, QuickAnchor, And QuickComments. - These are editable fields inside your profile that you can add Urls, Anchor and Comments, then when requesting or responding to a trade, you can auto insert Urls, Anchor or Comments. Plan on having 3-4 of them each, so you would essentially have 3-4 QuickLinks above the fields for URL (link to drop down), Anchor, and Comments.
  • Multiple URL's And Anchors For Stacks. - Right now a stack can only point to one domain, soon we will be able to request a stack of urls and have them link to different places but all track as one trade.
  • Collapsible Domains In Search/Category Pages. - While browsing a category where a user has multiple pages of a domain added (think 10 pages of pornstar pages from same domain), be able to 'collapse' the urls and show only the root of that domain.
  • Gay Webmaster Support - We will be adding a category cloud specifically for gay niches. It will look much like the current one, but feature only gay niches. The existing category cloud will from now on be referred to as the 'straight categories' (lol).
  • Request Trade Final Action Fix. - The very last step in requesting a trade should return you to the step before step 1. So if you were requesting from a sorted, and refined search, it should return you to that same spot (even to the scroll hopefully).
  • New Treatment Of Link Errors. - Basically this one you won't see in action, but you will get less incorrect trade errors. When we come across a Link Error on an active trade, we put it to the top of que to get re-spidered again in an hour or two and after passing the 2nd spider as Not Found it gets kicked to errors.
  • Private Messaging. - Not much to explain on this one. Adding the private message function to our tool.
  • Profile Reworking, Display On View Trade - I would like to 'personalize' up the profiles a little bit, and possibly incorporate some of that into the viewtrade. I would like to change up the entire way the upper page is laid out and use Left and Right mini profiles. Contact info, profile status/message, pages added etc. If you look at the pages we have the 2 user names at the top of pages, basically turning those into little mini profiles on each side.
There is a few other things that aren't up here yet, but I haven't fully decided on which way to procede. There is a great discussion about limiting trades on users who have X or XX trades in Set Up Status and need to add links. Read that post here, if added this feature will be coming with this update.

Any other suggestions, critism or ideas, please feel free to reply below.

The possibility to sort/order/filter domains by category when setting up a trade would be nice. Now you have to scroll through a long list of non relevant domains in the "Linked To:" field when you are on the "Request Trade" page.

I second this but would also like to add something to show which sites you have hidden. You get a couple hundred or more sites listed and that list gets long. Would be nice to pick a category and turn on/off displaying hidden sites. Or actually a way to know what site is hidden or not as well as a way to show only hidden or only non-hidden.

I would really like to see a REQUIRED verified email contact and/or icq for each of my trading partners.

If I ever needed to change links, drop a site take a server offline for a few days etc, I feel it's just good practice to notify my link trading partners. Currently as linkspun exists, there is no way for me to do that.

Another nice feature would be the possibility to see the amount of trades (inbound/outbound) per site in your portfolio. So that you can quickly check whether a site could use more trades or not.

I would like that too. Or at least make it so that you can send PMs to trade partners.

sounds great!

I was going to suggest a search in trade requests.

So if someone requests a trade from me I can search their urls/pages for a specific keyword.

At the moment it seems you can only search for trades using keywords etc. but not search through the people pages who are requesting from you.

Sometimes it takes me a while to look through what sites the person has to find a suitable recip.

If that makes sense, how does that sound? :D

How about making it so you MUST leave 1 form of contact info. I have one trade that has a blogroll problem. I am assuming he uses separate software to handle trades and doesn't use the wordpress blogroll function. Now that it is jacked up he has no blogroll. When I go to his profile there is no contact info. When I whois all of his domains the contact emails all bounce. If someone isn't serious enough to leave one piece of contact info they shouldn't be allowed to trade.

Currently when searching for trades any page you have an existing trade with is highlighted in green. It would be nice if you could see one colour if you have a link FROM that site and a different colour if you are linking TO that site. Some of my own sites are interlinked so I might not want a link from a site that I am already linking to with another site in my network.

The entire way Existing Trades is shown will be changing. It will stay a light background (like the green) but when clicked will drop down an ajax/jquery box containing all existing trade details. So you will see basically the entire trade like it shows in the Active Trades list.

Yeah I think Drocd (the programmer) will be ready to jump on it start of this week. He mentioned last week it would be at least this Monday/Tuesday before he had the time to jump on it strong, so thats why I said about a week.

Gay Cats will be the first thing I get him on.

Sometimes I go on vacation and don't have access to a computer (or want to). Can we set a 'vacation' flag or similar so someone doesn't freak out when a link is not put up right away?

- under alerts, have an option to hide all the "this link is now active" - its pointless imo
- order alerts newest at top, its a pain scrolling all the way to the bottom
- mass delete alerts
- when someone leaves a comment, email you rather than have to check out alerts

People aren't reading the alerts, if you read them, and delete them as they come, there would be no extra fluff on that page.

There is users who don't even know that messages go to alerts, cause they've never read them, or deleted any.

Adding a mass delete pretty much ensures that nobody will read them.

Makes me want to pop all alerts on every page until they read them..lol

Still working abit on it, and will be full of active users soon enough, I'll do an official announcement (Press Release) to the adult news outlets in a few days , maybe Monday announcing that our programmer has gone gay.

Should send the gay webmasters into us as well and really help fill up the gay categories. ALSO - if you see any I missed, which I surely did, let me know and I'll add them.

i see that you have put the locked account feature in place if trades are not setup, and it appears you have set the lower limit to lock the account at 10 pending setups. (actually at this point we have 20 in the que, 10 we are waiting on the other partner to complete and 10 that I just approved from accepted or requested incoming trades. I'm assuming it's the 10 that I just approved that haven't been setup on our end that are locking the account?) This creates a problem for me. I review trades / approve trades and my assistant sets them up later in the same day. But now i can only approve 10 at a time before my account is locked? I understand why this feature is here, but this is counter productive in this situation.

The freeze or lock is only turned on once you hit 10 links in the set up that you need to add, all functions are still there, you can receive incoming requests, and your pending trades still move, you just cannot access those pages to do further trades until the ones that you agreed to add are added.

I think that if most people add their trades within a day or two of acceptance it shouldn't effect them.

This only counts the trades in final set up, I've not had more then 5-6 in there as I add the links when I see them there, I never wait for the other user to add them. I may not respond to a request for a couple weeks, but once I see it in Setup Trades I add them right away.

The number 10 is just a number I decided on, I'm not certain that it will stay there or move, but in normal situations, I see no reasons to have them sit awaiting links for that long, and if so, I think its fair to restrict requesting more if they prior trades aren't recognized.

There is still some work to be done on it, basically you are testing it out now, and the issue of 'accepting yourself into freeze' is one that we talked about but hadn't happened yet.

Maybe we can add some sort of session or timing so when responding to 12-15 requests at once we don't throw ourselves into the lock. Although, it takes 2 minutes to add the links at that point as well, and if the trade is in Setup when you are here, in theory, you should be adding the links.

Still working on it, need a few more posts like this to really get the feature tuned.

Understand. However, it's part of my assistant's job to request the initial trades by subject and PR match, and to do the physical trade adds into our sites. Mine to review the sites and accept or deny the trades and choose sites back on incoming trade requests. I will sometimes review 20 or 30 trades and que them for him to add later in the evening when he comes to work in his time zone.
How about a time clock on this instead of just a fixed number. If you haven't setup your trades in X days or XX hours (perhaps 2 days or maybe 48 hours?) your ability to request new trades or approve trades is locked until you have at least approved your pending trades to less than 10 ? This would work better for us, allowing the restriction of 10 after a time period rather than immediate.

Thanks, the old 'green background' was terrible, but terrible on purpose, I knew we needed to do something better but wasn't quite sure how to approach it.

I'm loving it the way it is now.
