301 redirect?

Post by LipshtickLady »

I use LO in conjunction with Linkspun - this makes it easier for me to set up trades and gives me a double check on whet links are up/down.

my LO report returns

Site Returned HTTP Code:301

for about 8 trades.

when I look at the site that returns that error and I can see my link, and it doesnt return an erorr on linkspun.

on LO forum Kaktusan said - just disable the 301 detect

just wondering if anyone knows why some sites return this?

It depends, sometimes a web masters redirects an "old" url to a "new". You also have web masters that redirect host.com to www.host.com. There are many reasons why you want/need to redirect. In the LO settings you can set if you want to ignore redirects or not. Its up to you how you want to handle this. Unfortunately, you can't set that for separate trades, it's a global setting only.

thanks CodeR - i figured thats why LO was picking them up. As I manually double check - only have about 8 on my linkcheck list on LO. its just disconcerting. I dont want to turn off on LO because am afraid I will miss something?

isnt that a bit old school - 301 redirecting http://www.mysite.com to http:/mysite.com not really needed now days ?

I do it the other way around, from host.com to www.host.com. This allows me to do dev.host.com, beta.host.com, etc. But that is just me, don't think it matters that much.
