Category for trading links from within a blog post

Post by vrocks »

This was brought up in another section of the forum in a semi-related thread.

Is there a lot of interest in being able to trade links from within a blog post?

To implement this the quickest and dirtiest way I could create a third Parent category called BLOG POSTS and then put the niches under it.

This parent category would be where you place your already posted URL and somebody can ask for links from this post. Just not sure how good this would be Google wise since the post will have already been indexed without your link. Then Google comes back and your link is added. I am sure there is an algorithm for that.

Any thoughts on the matter?

Can we list our blog posts as No Index until we get a link trade, then the post goes live when the link trade is completed?

I also have static SEO Page sites where text links could be inserted contextually instead of in the sidebar. Would have to manually ping the SE's after adding a new contextual link.

I can't see it being a problem with google, just like any other page gets indexed then links get added later, its just an update/edit to the page/post.
I'm rebuilding all my crappy blogs with mostly handwritten content so would be great to offer these handwritten post for links.
Third Parent category sounds like the way to go.

What about when someone requests a link from a blog post, will we be able to see only his blog post in return, or will we have to sift through hundreds of pages?

I don't think there willbe a problem. I have run my mainstream sites like this for years, posting pure text with no ads and going back after indexing and adding ads both contextual and sidebar. It helps them get indexes quicker and higher that way and I've never had any go down in rank yet.

Are we moving forward with this?

The quality of trades on offer here is getting atrocious if we want to comply with googles standards.

Site-wide non contexual footer and sidebar links jammed in the middle of a hundreds of other keyword rich anchors aren't worth shite and are raising red flags and getting our sites penalised. Giving out these links is also penalising our sites.

These are not the only problems with the quality of links here but blog posts is a great start to raising the quality of links and I hope it can be implemented asap. One contextual blog post link is probably worth 20, 30, 40, or even 50 of these crappy links we have now, even non handwritten posts.

I appreciate your extremely busy Vrocks and don't get much compensation for your hard work here but could you kindly move this task up your list of things to do?

The other problems with links here is at the webmaster level, but things could be implemented here to help see these problems, which in turn should push site owners to raise the quality of their sites.

More about this in the MozRank Thread. <--- Contextual non site-wide, non footer, non sidebar, low OBL page, high value link, pun intended

Youre absolutely right ... raising the bar for trades, getting better traders in etc - its what´ll get this place back alive I suspect...

Ive been a sinner myself in the past by accepting and giving crappy links of all the sorts you mention - and as a consequence have hundreds and hundreds of trades that needs stopping when I get the time to go through them ...

Trading in blogposts is great if kept relevant - but theres plenty more "good" ways of making it contextual, natural and high quality. Still a worthwhile thing though - and Moz will surely help weeding out the worthless ones.

I suppose we've all done the same in the past because it was easy and it got results, now we are paying for it in lost traffic and revenue and lots of extra work cleaning up the mess we created for ourselves :x

I'd be interested to know what your other ways are. Drop me a PM if you don't wanna share on here, I've got some new ideas and strategies myself that I'll share with people who are serious about getting quality links.

Heya

Nothing too fancy, but experimenting with a few things like:

"loveliest babes" in the sidebar
http://www.collegebeautycollege.com/

static pages - wrapping in relevant text:
http://www.thefetishguide.com/
http://www.amateurspanking.net/
http://www.amateur-exhibitionist.com/

linklist wrap in text and photos
http://www.bdsmbunker.com/
http://www.bdsmi.com/

etc, but not at all saying ive found the optimal way ...

I like the "loveliest babes" in the sidebar, nice layout. They are all better than a standard footer/sidebar link.
How do you get the sidebar to only show on index page, is there a plugin or do you have to manually edit the php files?

Link chains or pyramids work good on single post links, just get a few more links to the post with the same keyword that the post links to your money site.

Your bdsmbunker site is blocked in my country  The internet police must not like it

Heya

Yeah its just a free plugin letting you choose where each widget item is shown - "Display widgets" is the one I use, but theres plenty to choose from.

What country is that blocking the bunker? (they must be pretty uptight lol nothing dubious onthere)
