No point in asking trades any more

I sent 54 trade requests to 40 webmasters (who login here regularly) since March 5th.

No answers (accept or deny) from any of them. I sent them messages to review those request, too.

Please review the request and accept or deny them.

This started to be annoying.

You are wright.
It is frustrating to see they were online and haven't answered in any way.

It is frustrating indeed; maybe they're waiting your site to become more competitive during time..

I know that is a new directory (3.5 month old), that's why it is only PR1 (yet), but is VERY FAST GROWING (today's Alexa Rank: 209922).
I should do the same after the next Google PR update???

However, they could simply deny the trade and there would be no offence.

Google's PR update has happened some hours ago.

I also have 54 trade requests and 50 of them are older than 1 month. Some month ago I deleted all requests from the last year. It looks many of the webmasters don't take care of their trades here...

Im generally behind with responding to requests, not right now though, but most webmasters do get there eventually. Lenskiy might have a good point, its a bit uncertain whats needed right now - and the place could probably do with a promo-push externally to get some fresh faces and trades in, up the activity a bit etc (something we can all help with by just posting invites/links to our linkspun profiles on the webmaster boards for instance)

At this moment I'm not sending out new trade requests... I'm trying to figure if something is going to change...

But I'm still processing all my incoming requests within a couple of days - I'm a directory, links are my juice - I'm adding any good site that fit the category where the link is requested...

The last thing you should do when Google changes its algorithm is to stop building links.

I haven't lost any PR of my sites so I think I'll do the same work in the future, collect good links and post as much unique contents as I can.

Your site is in French. Not sure about it, but OK, I will accept 1-2 trades with my PR0 sites.

I login daily to check for support issues...

I login weekly or every 2 weeks to answer trade requests... The good thing is Google doesn't see spikes of added links... people like me smooth things out to look more normal.
