question about stacking trades

I'm aware that my page rank is less than stellar. So I don't mind when someone with a higher page rank asks that I put their link up on several sites. My question is what's considered fair?
I've had someone with a pr3 ask for 4 links. But I've also had those with a pr 1 site ask for 4 or more links.
Is there a forumla to calculate this sort of thing ???

i calculate it on many factors including:
how many outbound links does the pr0 already have?
are they just link farms or do they have content?
how old are they? do they have any traffic?
what language?
when was the page last updated?
are the updates genuine?

It can depend on several things. I usually ask for two PR0 for one PR1, three PR0 for one PR2, etc... I always consider the position of the link (footer or sidebar), the niche, the originality of the content, the age of the website, sitewide link or category page link, how often is updated the other website(s) - and of course, who requested me

Ok thanks! That puts things into perspective for me.

I usually ask for 2 PR0s if someone wants a link from one of my PR2 websites, 3 PR0s for a PR3, etc. I do check out the websites though...I just gave someone several PR2 links and just requested a PR0 link in return because his websites were quality and I can tell they'll go up and PR.

Glad I happened on this thread. I requested a trade with a PR2 site, and they want 6 links in return. I thought it was excessive

Maybe they did it to send you a message, your sites are all new with no incoming backlinks:

Try requesting from PR0 sites if thats all you have to offer in return. Also try PR1 pages like site.com/anal-page.html, your more likely to get accepted with these so you can gain some PR.
Make some (free) blogs and submit them to directories, link your blogs to your sites to gain PR and domain authority.
You can't just add 7 new tubes and start expecting people to link to you from estabilsed PR root domains.
