So yes I cannot get anyplace with out map, and I am fearful my usual sense of confusion has carried over to here.

I made a link request for

my site A - which is aged and not bad to another users site Z - which is very nice and in same niche (probably was a bit out of depth - but still getting the feel)

now I thought what would come back is yes will do that link above and you please do this one to my site Y from your site C or no denied.

right?

but what I got back was -

please link from

your site A to my site Y (which is a really great site)

and

in return my link directory/subdomain that is not in same niche will link to one of sites.



so I am not debating the merits of the trade

but question confusion is - if someone requests a trade, then can other user just toss that concept and say now how about these two total separate concepts?

1) You made an offer...
An offer they apparently did not like for whatever reason.

2) They made a counteroffer
A counteroffer you did not like for whatever reason

3) No deal was made.

That seems pretty normal to me....
Lots of no-deals will happen, just brush them off and get back to work.
It's the deals that get made which matter, not the deals that don't.

I must be completely confused now - I cannot find "counter offer" anywhere?

What does any of this have to do with geography?
