Can New Sites Posted to a Category be Highlighted?

I watch certain categories for new sites and kinda do it by notating the number of sites listed to see if new sites have been added to that cat. It would be easier to see which new sites have been added if they were highlighted or marked as new to the cat for a particular period of time....

Any input on how we should do this? We could stick a "NEW" icon beside it on the listings, but then you'd still have to browse the listings to find them -unless we had a sort by date added option.
Also, we could possibly stick a "NEW" icon beside categories on the Category List if they have new pages in the last X days.

This was from before we added the latest 500, we may not need to do this.
My main concern is having to much to watch for (ie to many bg colors on results).
