I have several sites that have referral links to my site in their footer that is apparently on every page of their site. So I am getting hundreds and some times thousands of links from single sites. Is this a good thing, or does google see this as spamming.

Looks like I got hit hard by Penguin. I lost about half of my traffic starting in may. I suspect the 50 links traded here all using the same link text, all coming from sites where many links are listed in in side bars or footers. Basically spam sites which seem to be about the only type of site list...
