Making $500+ a month off of less then 1k hits a day one site

Here is a repost of a post I made over on T.A.B a few minutes ago (TheAdult.Biz) about (see title).

You often see guys going after big search terms, or looking for high traffic sites to generate their sales, trades, or traffic buys. The volume of traffic a site has is not often indicative of its quality. We can't just say that high traffic sites have garbage traffic, but what we can say is that when speaking of search terms, and traffic, the smaller volume terms scale down in traffic, but scale UP in value.

A particular blog I run that hasn't been updated for almost 2 years (admittedly), is a niched blog about Classic Porn. It ranks in top 5-6 on Canadian google for "Classic Porn" and ranks 1st for almost all the movies listed on the site. Many of course are non adult named, so the users will only find them if they attach 'classic porn' to their searches which most do, and these are real easy terms to get listed on. (ie Coed Fever classic porn). It gets less the 1,000 hits a day total.

Anyways, because of this, and the large percentage of 'long tail search clicks' to the movie pages, and the proper offerings to this traffic (I'm offering them a site where that exact movie is available to members, plus 400 other classic films) it gets a very high click through rate, and solid conversions.

This site right now is averaging about 800 hits a day and has been doing the same since it started, here's the 1st period of this month below:










You can see that from 800 hits a day, its sending (140ish) a day to the sponsor, and converting 1/275, the traffic amount wasn't very consistent either on a daily level continually fluctuates from 70-80 hits a day, to 200-230 (but averages out about 150-160 a day to sponsor yearly). I didnt pick the 'good times' to show stats from, showed the last period, and last year and didn't cherry pick the high periods.

Anyways, long story short and the moral to the story.

10 to 20 blogs with 1k uniques a day, if done smartly, can bring in 5-10k a month. And they can do it consistently and fairly easily.

Yeah, the race is on. There are thousands and thousands of similar opportunities. Not all might be as "easy" to match with premium services or goods but they are there.

Side question jdoughs. Do you track your sites with aff trackers or do you use separate accounts for individual sites or group of sites?

No idea, but not many. I've never been a quantity guy. When I was working my hardest and most actively chasing down new big search terms I never had more then 100 domains. I would say I never had more then 50 but it was probably closer to 55-60 sites.

I did build lots of feeder blogs and the likes of that as well, but that's all irrelevant. It takes no time at all to make lesser sites, to boost money sites, you can spit 20 blogs a day out. So how many 1 hr sites did it take really dont matter unless it was thousands, and it wasn't.

The only missing ingredient here is time, work and a little patience.

It depends on some sites I do track outbound clicks, the above stats are just raw from the admin of sponsor, I only push 2 of the sites from the same program on the site, and really its 1, but also runs a banner of another on the page. I do actually have a couple banners to OTHER sites on this blog that aren't up there. They get sales to but probably 1-2 a month.

So for this site (and for many smaller niche sites) I custom pick a site to sell and often its the only traffic I send the program. I guess what I mean is I dont pick paysites to sell, I pick niches/products/terms and then match the perfect site to them, sign up to the program and push it.

I would say that it was easier to find hits a while ago compared to now. These days there are more webmasters dividing the pie, it has to be really good to make me happy and everything is so cookie cutter now.

If I were a newbie and I created something that made me $500 a month I'd be jumping for joy and dreaming about leaving my dead end job. Actually, I did have those moments often. But then as my income is increasing I find that I need to build something in the $2,000 a month level or it just doesn't seem worth it.

This reply is not knocking the site you built years ago... Just talking to the newer webmasters... Point is YOU can still do this... For me it gets harder and harder.
