Ignoring Trade Requests

I just read the "free links" threads in the Link Trading Forum & it made me think of another "problem" - people that ignore incoming trade requests.

I have some requests from back in Sept/Oct 2011 when I joined here - these people are logging in, but for whatever reason, simply ignore the trade requests.

I've got almost 200 trade requests out there - I think a couple of these people need to be called out, too.

And maybe something like the 20 Setup Trades rule where they have to at least clean up their incoming requests so we know they're not interested?

Granted, this is not nearly as bad/important as the "free links" problem, but it is aggravating none-the-less.

Also, maybe show the other party's Last Login date in with the Outgoing Trade Requests so that we can clean up some of our own, especially for users that no longer exist for whatever reason.

that's why I stopped sending trade requests

I always send trade requests to the people that are active (login < 5 days), but I always get a response (accept or deny) about 30-40%, even if other party login regularly.

Ehehehe. I also have over 250 requests pending...

They could be even stay there pending forever but it would be useful for us to recognize them in the list (marked in another color?), so, when we are looking for new trades, we can immediately see who is not getting back to our requests, and moving ahead...

Yea it's pretty frustrating when people don't do anything with requests, especially when they have recently logged on...

I am the worst! I have them from back in November still!

The nice thing about not having all of them go through at once is that it creates a natural link addition timeline for Google...

You put out 25 in one day and then again another 25 two days later... then NOTHING! To Google this looks like link building...

But naturally many of us are slower than shit to respond...

So you get 5 links up today, 2 tomorrow, 1 the next, 3 the next, nothing for 2, 2 the next.. and so on for 3 months... looks like normal link building... then you decide 3 months from now to add 20 more requests... guess what? We actually did you a favor!

I confirm there are many users who are accepting now my requests sent two or three months ago, so although most of them deal on them on regular base, there's a number of them who have much longer times...

We could think of putting a limit on pending requests or let them espire after some time, but I would stay very large with these limits. Something like:

unanswered requests expire after: 6 months
max number of pending request: 500

I still think best thing would be to have the pending requests marked in a different color in the list (if this is not too complicate to do and it is not using too much server resources) so we can avoid ask trades to people who are still having a dozen of pending trades with us...

Wouldn't mind seeing them in a different color myself...

In due time I will make a change to how they look... For now... I am down to this month!

I would show them by date, older ones always on top, and make the oldest red, then go to orange, blue and normal ones. Maybe its catches their attention.

Or some kind of splash screen/popup when they log in, saying how many requests they have and encouraging them to review the trades.

Even with all of that... would it make a difference if they just ignored it?

One thing I want to stay away from is having a law for everything... It makes things so restrictive. I can see how it might be frustrating, but when you get passed it and don't let it bother you... that is quite liberating...

I tend to focus on the people that DO trade with me and less on the people that don't (actively trade).

i don't see problem here i have 2,392 requests done by me with no response and 253 pending ones that has to be handled by others, i don't see anything wring here.
