LinkSpun.com service prices

Post by vrocks »

For the most part LinkSpun is a free service. We have finally resumed selling ad space, but the profits only cover programming expenses. So... From this point on any new requests for the services listed below will incur a fee. The fee will be paid to the admin servicing your request.

* Moving a domain or domains from one account to another:

50 cents per domain if the current trades are all stopped.

$1 per domain if the current trades are not stopped or you wish to also move the trades as well.

Hint: If the trades are all stopped, you can move the domain yourself!

* Stopping trades on more than 10 domains in a 3 month period.

$2 per 10 trades rounded up to nearest $2. (25 trades = $6)

Note: This pertains to the stop trade amnesty thread as well. If you scan the thread you will see a few requests in the 20+ range. Requests like those will no longer be free, but will still be pretty inexpensive.

Those are all for now. Basically I would like to keep LS free for the foreseeable future. Therefore, I would prefer to charge only for services that actually take up a lot of my time. Lately many of the users have decided they want to split their account into Gay, Straight, Tranny, or other kinds of categorical separations. To do so is a bit more labor intensive then the casual stop trade request or a request to look into whether a trader is cheating.

Anywho... carry on!

As you may remember John had ready a project to take LS to a different level, he showed me some test pages regarding features that would be included in a Paid Service that he wanted to launch at $9.99 a month. It had a lot on the plate for the paid and most of all for the VIP members and would have restricted the Non-Payers even from many features that they benefit in now.
Drocd should still have the files that John showed me. I am one that thinks that this service should be a paid one as is and them that are not willing to pay should not be allowed to request more than 3 trades a day, or be able to add sub-domains or internal pages.

Restricting would be the worst move a website can make (see thunderball), we already have less members willing to trade, let alone restrict them.

I am for a premium service that can offer more control and tools and I too am willing to pay for that, I am willing to donate to help this site stand up and be better but restricting the access is a no no.

If and when LinkSpun goes paid there will most likely be several tiers.

Free - Would see many restrictions, but still be very useful. Three trades a day is very harsh. It would still be many more than that, but not 100.
Tier 1 - Very close to what it is now and it would be cheap.
Tier 2 - Many restrictions you have now lifted or in some cases doubled. Added tools like the ability to completely change your output to no longer display subdomains at all or filter languages. This would cost an amount most would easily pay, many would prefer tier 1.
Tier 3 - Priced much higher, but would come with many bells and whistles for drilling down into a domain. It would have many API's gathering data from paid sources that would make it so you can join LS and get all of the benefits of having 5 or 6 memberships to those data source sites, but at a much lower cost.

The biggest problem is that in LS's current operating model there is no money for expansion. I finally got paid a somewhat decent, but extremely small amount for the MONTHS that it covered what I have been doing. Basically it paid me about $5 an hour over those months and we are talking many, many hours.

Making LS a paid model would require a lot of work. But I guess getting tier 1 set up would go a long way towards the small tweaks for tier 2, which would then go a long way towards paying for the massive amount of programming that would open up tier 3.

For what it's worth, I'd be interested in the paid service. It's worth paying for.

I'd pay for VIP service. I'd also donate if it came to that to keep this place open.

How much to re-spider my pages for OBL's?
I've nearly finished rebuilding all my sites and my pages are showing up to 150 OBL's when really they have about 20.
When I first added them years ago I had about 50 blog post on index page with 3 or 4 sponsor links each, like a knobhead.
These pages have had hardly any links added cos of this and I'm getting requests denied like crazy.

Whats the latest on the paid model idea, is it still in the works?

I went ahead and rescanned a bit of them for you. Some went from 100+ to 20 or 40+.

Looks like you found a bug... It did a literal check and got jacked up when your data in the DB was in uppercase and the array returned by the link checker came back in lowercase.

Fixed.
