Lately I have seen a lot of what I would call SEO newbies asking to have their accounts deleted or they drop all trades hoping that will save them from a Google update.

Most of the time I go in and actually take a look at what they've done and try and see if it actually had anything to do with a Google update or if it was just coincidental timing. Like perhaps the update happened on May 5th and their problem actually started on May 2nd or May 10th.

From what I have seen with my own eyes the update didn't hurt the trader. They hurt themselves and their problem usually has nothing to do with Linkspun.com or Google. It is just how they are choosing trades.

There are some here that sling trades like mud. They add 100+ a day. 500 a week. If they are lucky they might get about 50 to 70 to actually add. They have sites with 18,000 inbound links. Some of them do very well. Others do horribly and I wonder if the traded traffic is what they are going after because Google has no love for them. But then some aren't targeting Google. They are going after search engines in their native languages or they are going after Yahoo/Bing traffic. For the most part they are doing well there.

Newbies to SEO come in and see those guys and want to be them, but lack the work ethic it requires to be them. So they create trades with anyone. They load up with links to dating, free sex, sex, porn, teen porn, teen sex, phone sex, whatever... Their sidebar looks like this:

Their sites niche? It is a blog about BBW black women. You don't think Google knows you give links away like candy and ask for them on shit sites? In this case this person notices their organic traffic they built up in the year before they found LS is dwindling and they ask to have their account deleted or they stop all trades/pull links at the same time.

Six months later Google finally starts trusting them again... For the rest of their lives they bad mouth LS...

What happened was those guys I mentioned in that first big paragraph above were hitting them up for 50 links a day... they were accepting them when they should have been blocking them and denying their trades. Had they done that and only accepted good trades and used the search to find good inbound links their sidebar would have looked like this:

Well I'm probably one of those noobs who send out a lot of trade requests. I mainly stay in my niche though. I never would blame Linkspun for SEO problems though. I see this as a tool and its up to the user to know how to use it properly. Now the reason I have so many trade requests is because honestly I don't know much about SEO so I'm just testing to see what results I get. So far its been hit and miss. I notice some of my sites are building organic traffic while others are doing nothing. Now im just trying to figure out the difference between the blogs I am making.

Nothing wrong with putting out 100 requests a day. There are over 25,000 very high quality pages here... You probably have a couple hundred of them. But you have to hunt out those trades. Do some research. Deny stuff that doesn't have any content or has nothing to do with your niche. When I first got started here I added about 600 trades the first year. Every site I added them for did gang-busters... But they were smart trades. It took about 5000 requests to get those 600 trades. Don't expect everyone to accept your trade or even look at it for months. I am notorious for taking 2 to 4 months to look at a request... My cue is at 0 right now though!

The vast majority of LS users are doing this as a hobby. Seeing what sticks. They have day jobs, night jobs, second jobs, wife jobs, kid jobs, charity work, community service and life in general. I'd say perhaps 150 to 200 of us do this full time and the other 3800 don't?

Unfortunately I really don't have a niche at this moment. But I'm trying to get one but sadly it's not easy because I shoot my own content and I'm hitting walls. So my goal is to get exposure and create a portal of contact.

After that I'm hoping to turn this back over to the real webmaster. (not me) He can fix the mess I create.

Well its a hosted tube site so they put all the ads there. I emailed them though to see if I can get ads that actually go with my niche and Im waiting to hear back. If they cant I may have to look into getting a tube script and hosting the domain myself so I can control the ads. I just hate to change it though now that I have that great position.

Yup... Because then your own solution would have to mirror how their script is handling the fake directory structure or Google would bitch slap you...

I just got denied a trade because it was not in their niche. Well I understand that but she was asking for ABCD link trades, and Niche specific. The message was a little not quite rude but the statement was as though I dont know what Im doing.

I was requesting a link from a Babe site to a Babe Shemale site with babe in the keywords and Babe being all over the site its self.

Staying in the Niche is fine. But remember that your niche is more than just milf or woman or tranny. Its the NICHE of what the site is over all.

And if every single one of your trades in is the main niche only you are asking for google to slam the living shit out of your site with penalty's.

Remember link trading is frowned upon by google, so ask your self. what are the chances I have 4oo links inbound and every single one of them comes from JUST that particular niche. The answer to this is Slim to NONE.

If you have a fairly good blog you can look and find that people are linking to it that you have never asked to link to it. They found your blog/site, found value in it and linked on their own. They May or may not be in your niche and may or may not be using the text you would use. That's what google is looking for.

I try to link mostly to niche sites, however I sometimes have to link to webcam or dating white label here and there because many ask for these link backs. And I do not want to lose trade. And I was there for some time and I have only 96 trades so far. I do not approve every trade and I do not request for every trade.

Lately I have been doing a lot of A <=> B trades as having too many ABCD trades can really hurt you if you have only those and no regular trades.
