How does LinkSpun work?

Hi All,

I am new here and would like to know how link trading works as I have never done it before. From what I can see, I gather that I make an agreement with other webmasters to have their links displayed on my site and vice versa. So for example, I can display something on my footer that says 'check out our partner sites' and have the links displayed there. Have I understood this correctly or is there more to it?
